Panch Pokhari which means the group of five lakes is the famous pilgrimage site of the Hindu pilgrims where thousands of pilgrims visit the Lakes every year. Panch Pokhari is situated west of Rolwaling Himal towards the north east of Kathmandu valley at an altitude of 4100m. During the Janaipurnima (Full moon day) festival which falls in the month of August, thousands of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims visit and fair is held in this sacred place. There you can see the temple of Hindu lord Shiva made with sheet metal as well as two metal roofed houses. Panch Pokhari trek provides the mountain vistas, cultural experience, unsurpassed natural beauty as well as the biological diversity. It offers the wilderness experience to the trekkers. In this trek you can see the excellent view of the mountains like Dorje Lakpa Himal, Gaurishankar Himal, Rolwaling Himal, Jugal Himal, Purbi Chhyache, Ganchhempo, Masiya etc. the culture of the ethnic Tamang and Sherpa along with their warm greetings adds further pleasure to the visitors.
Panch Pokhari trek is the off the beaten trekking trail which begins with the drive from Kathmandu to Chautara, the District head quarters of Sindhupalchok district. Panch Pokhari trekking trail traverse through the ethnic villages with unspoiled culture, Buddhist monasteries, pristine nature, forest of Rhododendron and oak, terraced farm cultivated with wheat, potato and millet with the superb views of mountains from a very closest point. This trekking region mostly inhibited by Tamangs, Sherpa, Gurung, Brahmins, Chhetri, Newars etc. you can enjoy their culture and tradition and get insight into it. The lifestyle and culture of the Sherpa of this region is different to that of the Solukhumbu region. From the top of the Panch Pokhari, you can see the superb view of the Rolwaling Himalayan range, Gosainkunda Peak, Jugal Himal range, Makalu and many more. Panch Pokhari trek can be completed throughout the year. The normal physical fitness and walking experience is enough to complete Panch Pokhari trek.
