Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is an immaculate combination of the remote Langtang valley with the high mountain lakes at Gosainkunda.
Located close to Kathmandu valley, Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is known to be one of the most stunning and picturesque treks and makes trekking a delightful experience. Blessed with beautiful alpine meadows and striking greeneries, the marvel of Langtang regions is credited with lofty snowy peaks, gurgling rivulets, and high-altitude glacial lakes.
This trek lets you explore the remote and stunning valley of Langtang. The region is majorly inhabited by the Tamang community who are known for their hospitality. Besides the experience of local culture, you will get remarkable views of the Himalayas – Dorje Lakpa, Ganchhenpo, Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Langtang II, and numerous 6,000 – 7,500m peaks.
The entire Langtang Gosainkunda Trial falls under Langtang National Park territory: offering you an opportunity to witness wildlife - Red Pandas, Musk Deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Thar, Rhesus Monkey, and Langur. It is also a paradise for bird watchers and botanists; especially during the spring season. The entire valley is embellished with rhododendron and bamboo forests, pine trees, rocks of different formations, grassy meadows, and snow-capped peaks.
Likewise, Gosainkunda Lake holds great religious significance to Hinduism and Buddhism faith followers. Hindu Mythology believes Gosainkunda is an abode of Hindu deities Shiva and Gauri. Legend has it that Lord Shiva created the lake when he thrust his Trident (Trishul) into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his stinging throat after swallowing the poison.
The lake remains frozen for six months (October – June) and melts down to form the Trishuli River for the next six months. There are 108 lakes; of which Lake Gosainkunda is the major one.
In short, Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is perfect for those who have limited time and wants to explore the glory of the Himalayas and the life it supports; without being far from Kathmandu.
